COOKING A BIOPLASTIC BAG

KAS - AYA was born with the idea of creating a brand of sustainable accessories made from bioplastics, using new technologies and at the same time completely traditional techniques such as loom weaving, remembering our roots. Sakshi Shah is from Coimbatore, India, and Amaya Garcia from Mexico City. When we met we connected in the moment, our love for textiles, specifically those of the artisans of our own country. We also coincided in the desire to mix the artisanal with the sustainable, using new technologies. A push project in which we wanted to support our communities through design.

Bioplastics are completely sustainable textiles; by mixing gelatin, glycerin and water, boiling them you will obtain a mixture, this is spread on a flat surface with edges (a photo frame can work). You can color the mixture with natural or artificial dyes, let it dry for a few days on a cool surface and then peel it off the frame. It is completely biodegradable, in a year or a year and a half it will disappear.

The bag was made using water, gelatin and glycerin. The color was given with glitter and edible coloring, when the mixture was finished we let it dry for 4 days, took it out of the frame and cut strips with lasercut. Finally we wove them on a loom, mixing it with yarns.
